Hilti Partners with Canvas Robotics to Revolutionize Drywalling and Enhance Construction Productivity
SCHAAN, Liechtenstein–Hilti, a leading construction technology provider, has announced a strategic partnership with Canvas, a robotics company focused on developing advanced drywalling solutions. Canvas, founded in 2017 in San Francisco by industry veterans from Boston Dynamics, MIT, and Stanford, specializes in robotic systems that enhance productivity and safety for skilled trades.
This collaboration represents a major milestone in construction robotics innovation, building on Hilti’s previous success with the Jaibot, the world’s first semi-autonomous ceiling drilling robot, launched in 2020. Both companies share a vision that robotics can unlock significant untapped potential, transforming construction sites into safer, more productive environments for skilled workers.
Canvas has made substantial advancements in robotics for drywall finishing, a trade known for high rates of work-related musculoskeletal injuries. The Canvas robot, capable of applying stage 4 and stage 5 drywall finishes, operates more efficiently and safely than traditional methods, reducing repetitive stress and capturing 99.9% of dust from sanding.
Through this partnership, Hilti will oversee manufacturing of Canvas systems based on its Jaibot platform, ensuring scalable production to meet the growing demand for Canvas’ robotic solutions. This collaboration enables Canvas to expand its reach globally, addressing critical industry challenges like rising costs and labor shortages, and paving the way for more sustainable, safer job sites.
